Edible seeds

Rich in essential nutrients and healthy fats

Edible seeds have always been a major part of the human diet as they are rich in essential nutrients and healthy fats. Seeds provide us with nutrients that can be difficult to obtain otherwise, such as omega-3 fats. With the growing global concern over the climate and biodiversity impact of our diets, these nutritional qualities of edible seeds make them a natural candidate to supplement or replace less sustainable meat and fish products.

Product range

Acomo is involved in the trading, processing and distribution of edible seeds, including sunflower, sesame, pumpkin, flax and poppy. The most extensive offering is sunflower seeds, including both in-kernel and shelled for the snack and retail industries, birdseed for wildlife and a variety of innovative sunflower products, including SunButter®.

Acomo’s Edible Seeds segment also provides a wide range of edible seeds to the bakery, spice and confectionery industries. Additional value is added through fully controlled, high tech treatments to ensure the quality and food safety of delicate seed products.

Have you ever considered how edible seeds grow and are turned into the products you enjoy?

From plant to harvest

Harvested seeds are cleaned, sorted and often roasted to enhance their nutty flavor. The outer shells are removed to reveal the tender, oil-rich kernels inside. Edible seeds develop in fascinating ways – from sunflower seeds in iconic large flower heads containing up to 2,000 seeds, to tiny sesame seeds in pods, pumpkin seeds within autumn gourds, and flax seeds in delicate blue flowers.

From seed to kernel

Harvested seeds undergo cleaning, sorting and processing tailored to each variety. Whether revealing oil-rich sunflower kernels, hulling sesame seeds, or preparing pumpkin seeds, each process enhances their natural flavors and nutritional benefits.

From kernel to dinnertable

Through specialized processing, these nutrient-dense seeds become diverse products. Sunflower seeds transform into snacks, birdseed for wildlife, and innovative products like SunButter® – a delicious alternative to traditional nut butters, perfect for those with allergies. Other seeds become ingredients for baking, cooking oils, and healthy food products worldwide.
